Counselling Cell

The counselling cell provides counselling related to academic, career and personal counselling. It provides counseling related to academic choices during the admissions process to enable students to decide upon their course of study. Teachers are always available within College and students can approach them with their academic problems. The College organizes talks with experts from various fields for the students to learn about prospective careers. There are staff trained in psychology and counselling to help students with their psychological and emotional problems.

Mentoring

Mentoring is a close individualized relationship that develops over time between a student and a faculty member and that included both caring and guidance. The mentor will care about students as a person, make them excited about learning and encourage them to pursue their dreams.  Every student will have a mentor from the faculty. Each student should have a mentoring session once in a month. Mentoring will be a continuous process till the end of the course in the campus.

College Volunteer Body

The volunteer body consists of 50+ students from various departments. They help organize and coordinate various college events such as cultural fests, seminars, conferences etc. These events are conducted in the college throughout the academic year. They are also trained in various activities that pertain to leadership, problem solving, time management and team building.

Placement Cell

The Placement Office facilitates the students to explore the world of employment and new career avenues. It also helps students in career planning through counseling where in they gather information about themselves in terms of their interests, aptitudes and abilities so that they can choose their career more effectively. The objective of the Placement Office is also on the professional development of the students by training them towards employability skills such as resume building, group discussion and interview skills which in turn helps the students to move into a desired occupation and/or apply in prestigious postgraduate and professional schools

The Placement Office takes the initiative to explore new career avenues for graduates and post graduates through visits to new companies and unexplored sectors. Campus recruitments are organized every year. The selection process generally starts with a pre-placement talk in which a firm/organisation gives the students insights into the company profile, job profile, career path, CTC etc. which is followed by the actual selection process i.e., written test, group discussion, interview etc.

Centre for Extended Learning (CEL)

Christ College conducts certificate programmes beyond regular syllabus. Certificate programmes consisting of 30 hours are conducted by the departments. Students are strongly recommended to take up and complete at least three certificate programmes during their period of study, in diverse disciplines, to equip themselves in life. Interested students can choose programmes from any discipline.

Sports

Sports and games are essential for the development of a healthy person. Students are encouraged to take part in sports and games.  College provide specialised coaching and training opportunities for committed performers in athletics, badminton, football, basketball, volley ball and throw ball.

Centre for Social Activities (CSA)

The Centre for Social Activities is a platform for students to serve the society in order to bring social change and also provides an opportunity to interact with various NGO.  The objectives of CSA are:

  • To assess the needs of the local community

  • To establish institution-neighbourhood network

  • To promote holistic development of nearby villages

  • To plan and liaison with various departments in their outreach and extension programmes

 

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The NCC trains the cadet to be physically fit, mentally strong and serve the nation in varied contexts. It is platform to develop character, comradeship, idea of service

and capacity for leadership in young minds. The immediate benefit of N.C.C. training is the improvement in physique and mental alacrity cultivating a sense of pride in smart turn out and bearing, fostering a sense of discipline and responsibility, development of personality and an aptitude for leadership, and the inculcation of the principles and practice of military service.

 

National Service Scheme (NSS)

NSS acquaints the students with voluntary social service through participatory manual work the teachers themselves giving the lead and guidance. With "Not Me, But You", as its motto, NSS expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of another man's point of view and promotes consideration for fellow human beings. NSS strives to teach the students that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole. Therefore, seeks to demonstrate this aim in its day-to-day activities

 

The Student Council

The Student Council is to promote quality in student life within and outside the College. It is a support system for the holistic development of the students and works in liaison with the General Administration and respective Departments of the College. The Student Council functions under the supervision of the Director Student-Council appointed by the Principal.

Objectives:

  • To imbibe and inculcate among the students the vision, mission and core values of the College.

  • To provide constructive feedback on various aspects of campus life – academic programmes, general discipline, library facilities, maintenance of the campus and other student service facilities.

  • To suggest the means for improving the academic quality and standards and the research culture among students.

  • To suggest and implement student projects for their holistic development.

  • To identify, assess, evaluate and suggest the student perspectives in the development of Arts and Culture, Sports and Games, and other co-curricular/extra-curricular activities involving student participation.

  • To identify and suggest methods of improving student life and student conduct and discipline.

  • To assist the anti-ragging committee to remove the menace of ragging completely.

  • To assess and improve the potential for student placements and facilitate internships.

  • To create and encourage an environment for healthy and effective use of student service facilities and suggest methods for its improvement.

  • To help interlink students, faculty members, staff and management of the College effectively to forge a strong academic community.

  • To help establish and maintain continuous and effective interaction with the alumni of the College.

  • To help the students to keep the Christite spirit alive through various activities.

  •  Constitution of the Council:

  • The Student Council is constituted by representatives of students chosen from all the UG/PG Programmes of the college. Number of the members in council may vary every academic year based on the new programmes introduced by the college. It consists of two representatives from each class with a minimum strength of 20 students. If the number is less than 20 only one member will be represented. In case of two members representing a class one would be a boy and other member would be a girl.

  • This body of the Council will also include one representative each from CSA, NCC, NSS, Cultural Team, Sports, Games Team etc. of the of the college, nominated by the Principal.

  • The Student Council shall act as a responsible body contributing to the Vision and Mission of the College and shall neither be an association nor a bargaining agency of the students. The Principal may dissolve the Council at his discretion at any time prior to its functional duration.

 

Nomination Procedure:

Students fulfilling the eligibility criteria such as academic performance (65%), percentage of attendance (85%), participation in events and activities of the department or college, holistic skills and the general standing are eligible to apply for council. Application form to be submitted to their respective class teachers along with a statement of purpose, a copy of the attendance and marks card of the previous semesters. The Class Teachers in consultation with HOD evaluate the statement of purpose, attendance and marks card and submit a list of eligible candidates to the Election Coordinator. The Election Coordinator shall then review the applications and interview the candidates. Based on the interview and other achievements two members are selected from each class in consultation with respective HOD’s and class tutors. This student council will elect the office bearers for the academic year.

Schedule of Meetings:

The Student Council shall meet on a monthly basis with the Director of Student Council and convey the suggestions / feedbacks to improve the quality of life in the campus. A meeting shall also be held once in a semester with the Principal. The Principal convenes the meeting in which the Vice Principal, HODs and Student Council Staff Coordinators and council members participate without fail. The Student Council Coordinator along with the student council members from respective departments shall present the suggestions and feedback from department. 
 

Attendance for the meetings is compulsory and absence for the same for two consecutive times without prior information and valid reasons shall impose termination of the member and a new member shall be appointed for the post.
